The new atrium for the St. Boniface Hospital incorporates many functions - a new entry for the hospital, a meeting place and comfortable lounge to allow patients to getaway from the sterile hospital atmosphere, a large cafeteria, a gift shop and other retail services, and the HR department for the hospital. Our concept was to incorporate a residential-style ambiance to the space using soft warm colours, wood finishes, table and floor lamps, soft banquette seating and patterned fabrics. The themes for the various functions were based on the four earth elements - earth, fire, water and air. In addition, the floor patterning incorporates a simplified version of the human DNA chain.
